Your portrait, reimagined by Doug
The Process
We’ll discuss your vision, subject, and preferred size — either in person or virtually.
Doug paints from life or photo references, using layered oils to bring warmth and depth to every portrait.
Finished work is professionally varnished and either shipped or available for local pickup.

Photo-Based Portraits
All portrait commissions begin with a conversation—either in person or over the phone. When possible, Doug prefers to photograph the subject himself and narrow the options down to three images. The photo you choose will be the template for the painting, so it’s important that you genuinely love the image as it is.
A 50% deposit is required to begin, based on the size and complexity of the project. Most paintings take 2–6 weeks to complete. You’ll be able to give feedback once the portrait is nearly finished. After final approval, the remaining 50% is due prior to delivery.
Doug can also work from any photo you provide, including black-and-white images.

Life-Modeling Studio Portraits
Studio portraits are created from life in three-hour sessions, scheduled either before or after lunch. These sittings require a reasonable amount of stillness. Subjects are welcome to talk as long as the pose is maintained, and a short break is taken roughly every 30 minutes.
Portraits from life are priced for head-and-shoulders only unless otherwise noted.
